Sacagawea Dollar

The year 2000 marked the beginning of a new United states coin called the Sacagawea dollar. It is more commonly referred to as the "gold" dollar because of its golden color. The obverse design depicts a young American Indian woman named Sacagawea with child. She was married to a French Canadian fur trader named Charbonneau. Both her and her husband were guides for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on the famous Lewis & Clark expedition of 1804.
