The year 2000 marked the beginning of a new United states coin called the Sacagawea dollar. It is more commonly referred to as the gold dollar because of its golden color. The obverse design depicts a young American Indian woman named Sacagawea with child. She was married to a French Canadian fur trader named Charbonneau. Both her and her husband were guides for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on the famous Lewis & Clark expedition of 1804.

This is Jake's Master Index page for all of the products that we carry for the Sacagawea dollar. The list is divided into four categories to help you choose what will be best for your individual collecting, gift giving or promotional needs. The categories are: Holders, Folders, Albums and Display Boards.

Explanation of Categories:

Holders are designed to hold from a single Sacagawea dollar to several coins. Holders make a very attractive display and are a great gift.

Folders will generally accommodate all of the Sacagawea dollars issued within a given year to the complete series from the first coin issued to the last. Some folders will have a space for both the Philadelphia and Denver issues for each dollar. Folders are by far the most inexpensive way to house the complete series and are excellent for beginners. If you plan to collect the Sacagawea dollars in Choice condition we do not recommend Folders as they will not give your quality coins adequate protection from potential environmental damage.

Albums are similar to folders with the exception they are the more deluxe way to collect and are usually the preferred choice of the more advanced numismatist. Albums offer the collector greater long term protection in preserving the quality of their coins. Some albums will also include the Special Proof Issues sold by the Mint. The process the Mint uses to make Proof coins (see Jake's page on Proof Coins for a full explanation) is totally different from the way coins are produced that are used for general circulation.

Display Boards will generally accommodate the complete series but will only have a space for a single coin for each year issued. Some Display Boards will fold in half for easy storage while others are designed to be hung on the wall or mounted in a frame. Display Boards, as the name implies, make an attractive display for the home or office and generally will have additional information pertaining to coin series.

Sacagawea Dollar Holders

Air-Tite coin holders are by far the most popular choice by knowledgeable coin collector's who want superior long-term storage protection for their coins. Air-Tite coin holders are available as a Direct Fit or the Ring Type holder. "D"

This is a two piece 2" x 2" snap together plastic holder that is frosted with a crystal clear window to view the coin. This is a very popular and inexpensive holder that is available for all of the current size U.S. coins as well as a 5 and 6 coin year set and a 5 coin Statehood quarter holder. In the 2" x 3" snap lock plastic holders category there are no less than seven different holders to choose from, all of which are very attractive in their own right. There are two that have famous paintings depicted on them. The one that is shown here is painting #1. Another has a tapestry of Sacagawea. There are two different holders that have the year 2000 Millennium printed on them, one of which holds a 1999 Susan B. Anthony dollar along with the Sacagawea dollar. Rounding out the selection of Sacagawea snap lock holders is one that shows the route of travel by the Lewis & Clark expedition and another that will hold both the Philadelphia & Denver Mint issues. Picture frame style with glass, solid Oak frame and four-color art makes for a very attractive package for this Sacagawea dollar display. The display measures 6 3/8" x 8 3/8" in size and has a self attached easel on the reverse so the display can stand upright. They are available to accommodate either a single or two Sacagawea dollars. Although the H.E. Harris & Company has been a major source of coin and stamp supplies for many years, coin folders are an entirely new item for them. Sacagawea Dollar Albums

Whitman Classic deluxe album for the Sacagawea dollars holds the Philadelphia, Denver and the Special San Francisco Proof issues. Album is done in a blue simulated leather and has acetate slides allowing you to see the obverse and reverse of each coin. Additional Information and Prices. "D"

Dansco Supreme World Coin Library offers the intermediate as well as the advanced numismatist two very excellent choices when it comes to assembling a collection of the Sacagawea dollars.
